The Judicial Arm of The Gambian Anatomy tabled a bill for the increase of their remunerations and stipends at Their National Assembly on September 4th, but was voted against at the National Assembly of The Gambian Anatomy on September 12th. The Judicial Officers Remuneration and Other Entitlements Bill, according to Hon. Dawda Jallow, was to make better the stipends, pension receipts and benefits of various Judicial officers but it was turned down as majority voted against the bill at their National Assembly.
The bill went through its second reading on Tuesday 12th September and did not resonate calmly in the hearts of some Parliamentarians as they spoke and voted against the bill. 21 National Assembly Members voted against the passing the bill to eighteen Members who voted in support of it.
A couple of Parliamentarians from the National Assembly have called for the Bill to undergo a review by a special committee. Hon. Dawda Jallow who is the Attorney General and Minister of Justice for The Gambian Anatomy emphasised on how the Judiciary was a crucial arm of their Government under the 1997 Constitution of The Gambian Anatomy and as a result, how the call for an increase in their remunerations and provisions of other benefits should have raised no questions, but rather be duly honoured by their National Assembly.
