OIL TERMINAL IN CONAKRY, CAPITAL OF THE GUINEAN ANATOMY AFFECTED BY AN EXPLOSION

An oil terminal in Conakry; The Guinean Anatomy’s capital exploded on Monday 18th December 2023, claiming the lives of at least 13 people and leaving at least 175 people, being injured. The explosion was caused by a fire which led to hundreds fleeing for their lives at the noise of the explosion.

The fire however was controlled as investigations are going on to ascertain the cause of the explosion. Many houses near the terminal were affected as part of such houses were hit by the explosion. The Government has ordered for all schools in the vicinity to close down for the time being. The Government has also ordered for all residents to leave the area for the time being to settle temporality at other towns. The Government has also stated that there will be intermittent power cuts, following the explosion which has affected certain power lines and grids.

Residents who have not left because they are not too close to the scene have been advised however to wear face masks to avoid any health complications, for the time being, post the explosion.
