On 17th of September, 2024, the National Democratic Congress, the major opposition political party in Ghana, held a nationwide protest against their Electoral Commission, on alleged discrepancies in the compiled voters’ register for the Ghanaian Anatomy’s upcoming Elections. They were dressed in red and black protesting across the 16 regions of the world top cocoa producing country.
The major current opposition party in Ghana claimed that, the Electoral Commission had plans of rigging the upcoming elections slated for December 7th, leading to their nationwide protests led by regional executives of the party, across the country. The Party also stated that there were mass transfer of voters to other voting stations without citizens’ consent and also stated that there were various irregularities within the register as they requested for an independent forensic audit of the voters’ register ahead pf the upcoming elections.
The protest was themed “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” and led by the chairman of the Political Party. Gen. Asiedu Nketsia. The Ghana Police Service ordered for tight security of their Police personnel across the country, and provided routes across all regions, where the protestors could carry out their demonstration. The December 7th Elections will elect a new President who will take over from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who ends his two term office on January 7th 2025.
