The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation which was formed seventy five years ago by 12 countries to defend their security in the International System had 32 allies meeting from 9th to 11th July 2024, in Washington DC to commemorate their 75th anniversary and to make practical decisions on protecting their allies.

The Allied leaders also had discussions with representatives from Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea to strategically address various debilitating threats confronting them and how they can resolve them through cooperation. The increasing alignment of China, Iran, North Korea and Russia has been seen as a threat to NATO as they also continue to co-operate with more states in the Indo-Pacific region and in the International System as a whole to protect their security.

The Major issue raised in the conference was on the Russia-Ukraine War of which China was noted as a big influencer to Russia in the ongoing war.

NATO declared their uncompromised stand for President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian Anatomy in fighting the war. They have also decided to create a NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine as well as at least 40 billion euros to help the Ukrainian Anatomy and their geographical terrain secure their land.

NATO Secretary General, Mr. Stoltenberg also stated that a NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre will be established in Poland and stated further that, a total of 20 states have signed bilateral agreements with Ukraine to help deter Russia from pushing further in the ongoing war.
