The Economic Community of West Africa States has lifted sanctions that were imposed on Mali, Guinea and the latest being Niger after their Military deposed the Presidents of these three National Anatomies. President Mohamed Bazoum who was deposed in July 2023 by Captain Tchiani of the Military faced some sanctions from their Bloc ECOWAS.

ECOWAS imposed sanctions on these three countries after Military coups that took place in these countries between the years 2020 and 2023. Niger, Mali and Guinea however formed an alliance with Wagner Group, a private paramilitary force based and owned in Russia known to be a proxy unit behind the Russia Government’s foreign interventions.

These sanctions are to enable these countries particularly The Nigerien, Malian as well as the Burkinabé Anatomies who have exited ECOWAS return back as their associations with other foreign blocs could be a threat to the West African Bloc formed in 1975. ECOWAS Chairman; President Bola Tinubu who heads as President of The Nigerian Anatomy has requested these States to return back and not see ECOWAS as an enemy to their Peace.

For the Nigerien Anatomy being the most recent country to be released off their sanctions, ECOWAS has lifted the freezing of their Central Bank, border closures, and has annulled the suspension of commercial transactions to their country.
