Mr. John Dramani Mahama won the 7th December General Elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress together with his running mate, Prof. Jane Opoku Agyemang. Dr. Bawumia who placed second on the ticket of the incumbent government’s party, on Sunday 8th December, conceded defeat even before the Electoral Commission announced the winner on Monday evening, 9th December 2024.
President Mahama had 6, 328, 397 votes representing 56.55 per cent votes as Dr. Bawumia, outgoing vice president who had 4, 657, 304 votes representing about 41.61 percent of the total votes cast in all the 267 constituencies for the Ghanaian Anatomy, hence placing second. Mr. Mahama stated that he will work to revamp the economy through ensuring affordable housing, ensuring the 24 hour policy, amongst others.
Mr. Mahama stated that, they will work towards also resetting the relationship between the citizens and elected officials and working together to take the nation out of the abyss, the outgoing government had put the nation inside.
Prof. Jane Opoku Agyemang also promised to stand for all women and encouraged all sundry to move forward together. She promised to hold the door open for other whoo wish to travel that door to be able to. travel through as she stated, her position is not a self agrandizing position, but a position to help others.
Mr. Mahama post the announcement of the results by the electoral commisoon delivered a message to party members and the general public, and has promised to work for the entire nation, no matter who voted for him or not. President Mahama has promised to stand in for the Ghanaian Anatomy and turn the nation into a new chapter where their best days will definitely be ahead of them as he ended, with Kwame Nkrumah’s favourite quote, “forward ever, backwards never.”
