The Sierra Leone Anatomy has been under chaos after Military personnel attempted to stage a coup and oust the Democratically elected President; H.E. Julius Maada Bio, who has been in Power since May 2018 through the right legal means.
These military stormed and attacked state institutions in Freetown and also prisons in the country leaving about 2000 prisoners being freed from the prisons. There were clashes which resulted in at least 19 people loosing their lives. Most of the alleged people were on the run as Police are on serious investigations to apprehend them. 13 Military officials were apprehended on Tuesday 28th November 2023 in connection with the coup. The last coup held in Sierra Leone was in 1997.
These were a few words by the Information Minister for the Sierra Leonean Anatomy, Chernoh Bah ober the incident – “The incident was a failed attempted coup. The intention was to illegally subvert and overthrow a democratically elected government.”
A couple of curfews have been ordered all over the country since Sunday 26th November, 2023. ECOWAS have also pledged their full support in providing security assistance to the West African country, when needed.
