INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT ISSUES ARREST WARRANTS ON NATIONALS FROM THE RUSSIAN ANATOMY

1 min read

On Tuesday 25th June 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on Valery Gerasimov; Chief of General Staff of Russia Armed Forcess, and Sergey Shoigu; Russia’s Defense Minister. Since the ICC has no military force and relies on the military personnel of States, it looks dwindling if these suspects from the Russian Anatomy will face the trials.

The warrants claim that these two suspects from the Russian Anatomy are major proponents in the strikes from the Russian Army against Ukraine’s electric building from 10th October 2022 to 9th March 2023.

Russia’s Military Council have however stated that they see the ICC’S actions as part of a hybrid war against Moscow. Russia has objected to the ICC’s views and have stated that, the Court have failed to live up to expectations and are not working as a truly independent body of independent justice. President Zelenskyy has applauded the move by the International Criminal Court.

These arrest warrants have so far summed up to eight warrants, since Russia’s invasion to Ukraine in February 2022 with President Putin also involved over his deportation of children of the Ukrainian Anatomy’s to Russia.
