CARE FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS GHANA has requested to the Electoral Commission for the Ghanaian Anatomy to work on an independent investigation following misplaced laptops in their Headquarters.
There were claims from the Minority in Parliament in March 2024 that some biometric verification machines were misplaced and this could have dire repercussions on the upcoming Elections slated for December 2024. The Commissions ruled out the claims but admitted that, about 5 Laptops were stolen after their routine servicing took place.
The Electoral Commission however noted that the misplaced laptops had no sensitive information on it that could have dire repercussions on the upcoming elections.
CARE FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS GHANA has stated that the Electoral Commission should conduct an investigation very quickly to safeguard the integrity of the commission. They have also cautioned the Electoral Commission of recruiting Political figures as returning officers in the upcoming Elections.
Head of the major opposition Party (National Democratic Congress’s) legal team; Edudzi Tameklo, has also stated that there should be a thorough audit of the Electoral Commission’s activities following a huge sum of $74 million taken in conducting a new 2020 voters register.
