By: Isaac Kwabena Boadu Date: 13th February, 2026

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed five candidates to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, scheduled for March 3, 2026. The candidates are Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Baba Ali Yussif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed Umar Sanda (Independent), and David Kanor (Independent).

The by-election is necessitated by the demise of the former Member of Parliament, Naser Toure Mahama, who passed away on January 4, 2026. The EC has urged the public to be guided accordingly as it prepares to oversee a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

The candidates have been assigned their positions on the ballot paper, with Baba Jamal picking the number one spot, followed by Ibrahim Iddrisu, Baba Ali Yussif, Mohammed Umar Sanda, and David Kanor.
