Senegal have emerged victorious in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), defeating host Morocco 1-0 in a dramatic final. Pape Gueye’s extra-time goal sealed the win, marking Senegal’s second AFCON title in three editions.
Senegal’s journey to the top was marked by resilience and determination. They topped their group with wins over Botswana and Benin, and a draw against Congo DR. They then beat Mozambique 4-0 in the round of 16, Algeria 2-0 in the quarterfinals, and Egypt 1-0 in the semifinals, thanks to Sadio Mane’s decisive goal.
Mane, the tournament’s Player of the Tournament, played a pivotal role in Senegal’s success, showcasing leadership, consistency, and influence on the game. His sportsmanship was also on display when he convinced his teammates to return to the pitch after they walked off in protest against a controversial penalty award.
