Ex-President of France Nicolas Sarkozy, a politician and former President of France from 2007 to 2012, has been sentenced to 5 years behind bars.
Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy 1955, Sarkozy known for his conservative and liberal economic policies as a member of the center-right party, was found guilty of criminal conspiracy related to alleged campaign funding from late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The court ruled that Mr. Sarkozy allowed close aides to contact Libyan officials for financial support in his 2007 presidential campaign.
Previously, Mr. Sarkozy was put under house arrest in 2021 for trying to bribe a judge, serving his sentence at home with an electronic tag.

Mr. Sarkozy has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for criminal conspiracy, with the court ordering him to be taken into custody at a later date. He plans to appeal the verdict.
Mr. Sarkozy’s conviction stems from allegations of illicit Libyan funding for his 2007 campaign, adding to his pattern of controversy during and after his presidency.
