Dr. Kofi Annan from the Ghanaian Anatomy was born in Kumasi on the 8th of April, 1938 and passed on, on the 18th of August, 2018. Kofi Busumuru Annan was the Founder and Head of the Kofi Annan Foundation, a not for profit organisation whose sole aim is to build fair and just Democratic societies in the world.
Kofi Annan served as the Executive Chairman of The Elders; Nelson Mandela’s Organisation created in 2007 to build peaceful, just and fair societies in the world. Kofi Annan was the seventh Secretary General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006.
Kofi Annan’s drive led to the transformation of the United Nations as the United Nations became more equipped, resilient, proactive and determined in solving global crisis. In 2001, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts towards building a peaceful and more prosperous global village. He also established the Global fund meant to combat Malaria, AIDS and Tuberculosis globally, launched the R2P model namely Responsibility to Protect which insinuated the International Community’s onus in protecting all humans from debilitating threats, wrote numerous books, taught at various universities, and promoted the rule of law as well, and built strong conflict resolution mechanisms for solving conflicts, globally.
Dr. Kofi Annan is a model from which all youths learn from. His legacy still lives on, and he shall continue to be remembered for his golden contributions towards solving the problems of humanity.
