KARIM KHAN SPEAKS ON THE DARFUR CRISIS – SUDANESE ANATOMY

1 min read

Karim Khan, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on Monday 5th August 2024, presented a report on the ongoing Darfur crisis.

Karim Khan stated that the next report delivered will have a request for arrest warrants for numerous people who have been stakeholders in the war via principles of international humanitarian law.

The entire speech was on the crisis that began in April 2023. Karim Khan emphasized that there are investigations behind those supplying funds and weapons as well as giving orders to the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces created by Ex-President Omar al-Bashir.

The International Criminal Court issued two arrest warrants for Omar al-Bashir in 2009 and in 2010, but he hasn’t been arrested since. In 2015, Omar-Al-Bashir attended the African Union Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The ICC later criticised South Africa for not co-operating with them by not arresting him, and this led to bad ties between the ICC and South Africa.
