PRESIDENT TOUADERA OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLICAN ANATOMY PUSHES FOR MORE YEARS IN OFFICE

The Anatomy of Central African Republic held a referendum on Sunday 30th July 2023 to vote approving or rejecting a new Constitution, increasing presidential years in office and also removing limits in Presidential terms. Mr. Faustin-Archange Touadera has implemented in the new constitution an increase in Presidential terms from five to seven years and also scrubbing off his previous years in office, making him run afresh from 2025 when his current term ends.

Presidential Faustin Archange Touadera has been President of his country since March 2016. He won the 2020 Elections making him stay in office for a second term from 2021 to 2025. However President Touadera seeks to scrap the Presidential limit and start afresh as President in his Presidential journey, if this constitution is approved. About 1.9 million people voted in the referendum that took place on Sunday, 30th July, 2023,

If this new constitution is approved, it will replace the recent one which was approved in 2016 when President Touadera came in to power as head of his National Anatomy. Central African Republic had been going through a civil war which begun in 2004 between the Séléka and the Anti-Balaka till peace begun to thrive from 2016. President Touadera believes this referendum will show forth the true State of the nations heart post Democratic Transitions being stabilised in the country gradually. Opposition groups spoke to people to vote against the proposed constitution as they believed President Touadera is being a dictatorial leader.
