13TH AFRICAN GAMES KICKSTARTS

The 13th edition of the African Games kicked off in Ghana on 1st March, 2024 at the newly commissioned University of Ghana Stadium in Legon – Ghana. The African Games is a sports event that brings together various athletes in diverse arenas of sports to participate in the competition, geared towards building Sports in Africa and fostering African Unity.

The event was postponed from August last year and has finally been launched this year. The Egyptian Anatomy currently has the highest Gold Medals with 639 Gold Medals won followed by the Nigerian Anatomy 470, the South African Anatomy 397 and the Algerian Anatomy with 313 respectively.

Games begun on 3rd March with over 13, 000 athletes and volunteers as well as supporters taking part in the event and will end on 23rd March, 2024. The Games will take place in three different cities in Ghana namely Accra; capital of Ghana, Kumasi and Cape Coast.

These were some of the words or the Vice President for The Ghanaian Anatomy; H.E. Dr. Bawumia who spoke at the launch on 1st March, 2024. – “It is in recognition of many social and cultural benefits inherent in sports that the Government of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic, took the bold decision to bid for and win the rights for Ghana to host this edition of the African Games. This visionary step has resulted in the construction of international standard sporting facilities such as the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and Rugby Field and the Borteyman Sports Complex….Construction of these facilities have not been easy, but we know that the returns would be immediate and substantial”
