THE TANZANIAN GOVERNMENT TO GRANT THE DIASPORA OF THEIR ANATOMY, A SPECIAL STATUS

2 min read

The Government of Tanzania is taking proactive steps of solidifying their entire National Anatomy as they are making plans of giving all Tanzanians in the Diaspora a special status known as The Tanzania Non-Citizen Diaspora. This step in alignment with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s plan of making sure that all Tanzanians by birth are secured to invest in the country, feel secure to engage in productive activities in the country. The Minister for Foreign Affairs for the Tanzanian Anatomy: Hon. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, also believes this will encourage more Tanzanians in the Diaspora to visit the country, invest and and acquire properties in the country.

This move has been instituted in the Government’s budget for the 2023/2024 Fiscal Year on the theme, Building Resilience and driving growth amidst Global uncertainty. Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, The Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation has stated to the Tanzanian Parliament, the concern of Tanzanian Diaspora in being a part of the economic activities of the country and as a result, the need for such measures taken to help The Tanzanian Anatomy, as a whole. Dr. Stergomena Tax also noted that her Ministry compiled the views of various stakeholders within and outside the country and have instituted the right amendments for the special status arrangement.

The country believes that this status offered to their Diaspora will give more of their Diaspora the needed confidence to return back to their country and invest in the country more. Over the past years, Tanzanians in the Diaspora have contributed immensely to the country’s economic development as in the 2022 fiscal year alone, The Government got Sh 4.4 billion through acquisition of houses and plots by the Tanzanian Diaspora. This Policy is different from a Dual Citizenship as Tanzania is yet to institute a Dual Citizenship status. This Policy is just to grant all Tanzanians an identity to give them the confidence to invest more in their country.
