2 min read

The Ghanaian Anatomy has passed a legislation to solidify their stand on LGBTQ in the Global Anatomy by passing a bill to make more harsher their punishment on all those caught, defying the law. The bill which was passed on 28th February 2024 has criminalised all acts associated with LGBTQ and its wilful promotion in Ghana.

In Ghana, all those involved in Gay sex when caught were to be sentenced to three years in Prison. The passed bill has made it more harsher as anyone caught sponsoring, supporting or promoting the Acts can be sentenced to up to five years in Prison.

The Parliament of Ghana has voted for the bill. President Akufo Addo is yet to declare his Stand if hesuports or rejects the bill.

The Bill known as the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill according to some Activists is a setback to the Democracy of The Ghanaian Anatomy. However, The Christian, Muslim and Traditional sections of The Ghanaian Anatomy have widely supported the bill and are glad that the Parliament has voted for it. Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, the former General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana harassed President Akufo-Addo to vote for the bill so it becomes a law.

The United States Ambassador to Ghana; Amb. Virginal Palmer, has however expressed her surprise at Ghana’s stand as she said most of the smartest, most creative and decent people are LGBT and has stated that the bill if enacted will hurt Ghana’s international cooperation and economy.
