A devastating conflict is ravaging Sudan, pitting the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a brutal power struggle. The war, which erupted in April 2023, has claimed tens of thousands of lives, displaced nearly 12 million people, and plunged the country into a severe humanitarian crisis.

The RSF recently seized Al-Fashir, the SAF’s last stronghold in Darfur, sparking reports of atrocities and human rights abuses. The SAF has retaliated with counterattacks in Khartoum and other areas, while the RSF has responded with drone strikes and shelling. The conflict is fueled by a bitter rivalry between SAF leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF leader General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti). The two factions have traded accusations of atrocities and human rights abuses, further exacerbating the crisis.

The international community, including the United States, is working to broker a ceasefire and facilitate peace talks. However, the situation on the ground remains dire, with millions facing starvation, disease, and displacement.

The humanitarian community is sounding the alarm, warning of a catastrophic famine that could claim countless lives. The conflict has also sparked concerns of regional instability, drawing in neighboring countries and international actors.

The people of Sudan deserve an end to the suffering and a chance to rebuild their lives.
