The German Government since 2017 had been deporting Nationals from the Gambian Anatomy who were illegally accommodating in Germany or engaging in illicit activities such as human trafficking, crimes, sexual misconduct and drug smuggling.

In 2019, the Gambian Government placed a moratorium on deportations from Germany and lifted it in 2020. Between 2020 and 2022, there have been deportations with about 630 deportations that have taken place between these years.

Marie Sock has stated that over five hundred million Euros were used by the European Union on the Deportation agenda but nothing has been seen. Marie Sock stated that the Gambian Government negotiated for the return of the Gambian Nationals. She further stated that the Government requested to the European Union for funds for a reintegration programme to provide training centers and skills centers together with a 3 months salary to aid the deporteees when they are back.

Marie Sock has stated that they should be transparent in how they negotiated for Gambians to be returned, what the key factors were and the concerns on the Gambian Government’s side and the criteria on the side of the European Uniom used to deport Gambian Nationals back.

She has stated that nothing has been seen and is asking President Adama Barrow of the Gambian Anatomy to come our clearly on the matter and what the grants for the deportation agenda has been used for.
