As I reflect on the life and legacy of Col. Muammar Mohammed Gaddafi who landed on earth on June 7th 1942 in Qasr Abu Hadi, Sirte, Libya, I stand unwavering in defense of Col. Muammar Gaddafi of the Libyan Anatomy, as a true resolute leader who transformed the systems in Libya.

Muammar Gaddafi’s fight against oppression began early in his life. From being dismissed from Sebha Secondary School for his political activism and involvement in organizing demonstrations against the Syrian Secession from the United Arab Republic in 1961, it didn’t lead to his dismissal in life, but rather struck the cords for his revolution. His resolute call towards fighting for the Libyan Anatomy marked the upward shift of Libya. Sadly, we see a different Libya today.

From being dismissed from Sebha Secondary School, he didn’t relent. This rather marked the genesis of his opposition towards the mediocre monarchical system in Libya, which led to him overthrowing King Idris who ruled from 1951 to 1969 in a bloodless coup on September 1st, 1969. From the founding of the Free Officers Movement, a liberation group that sought to turn around Libya’s politics, he rose to power.

After seizing power, Gaddafi implemented significant changes in Libya. He implemented Sharia law and encouraged the promotion of Islamic Socialism in his country. His vision for the country was centered on Arab Nationalism. Gaddafi forged alliances with countries such as Cuba and the Soviet Union, where he supported their militaries. He created a system known as Jamahiriya, In 1977 for an Islamic Socialist society where decision making was distributed among various committees ensuring the promotion of citizens’ participation in governance for the Libyan Anatomy.

Gaddafi fought tirelessly to ensure a socialist country, and via this, he brought free electricity to Libyans from the 1970s till he was ousted. From the 1970s, he also prohibited interest on loans by banks, implemented price control mechanisms to check inflationary spirals. Libya’s Gross Domestic Product per capita rose to as high as $15,000 in the mid-2000s before declining due to global shocks. He worked on providing affordable housing for Libyans, provided free healthcare and free education with investments in educational infrastructure from the 1970s. Education was totally free for all Libyan nationals, from primary to tertiary level, making primary education, free and compulsory for all. As I write this article, I speak to all Freedom Giants: you may have been sacked but there are in depth details behind that. Our societies are filled with mediocrity that people feel the tension whenever there’s a revolutionary in the corner. Don’t be silent. Do not let that dismissal put you off. You are made for more

Muammar Gaddafi emphasized African equality and representation in global affairs. Prior to his Chairmanship of the African Union in 2009, he hosted the Site Summit in 1999 at Libya where he presented his vision for a borderless Africa. He was instrumental in the formation of the Organisation of African Union and the African Union. He proposed the formation of a single african currency backed by gold to reduce dependence on foreign continents and further proposed for the establishment of a Central African Bank, an African Monetary Fund and an African Investment Bank to support African integration economically. He also fought for Islamic representation and global justice, demanding investigations into the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He was a strong supporter of Palestinian statehood and sovereignty, standing firmly for the Palestinian Anatomy. Additionally, he played a major role in the fight against apartheid, providing military support and financial aid to anti-apartheid movements as a founding member of the African Union. Let your sacking push you to enquire into the causes of our world order.

It is so saddening that Col. Gaddafi’s rule came to an end during the Arab Spring, following a popular rebellion against his regime coupled with NATO’s support, leading to his overthrow and assassination on October 20th, 2011. Despite controversies surrounding his rule, Gaddafi’s legacy as a leader who fought for various causes continues to be remembered. Many people must begin to understand the African democracy is different. The foundations must be built on different lenses. They killed Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, amongst others, because they didn’t understand the revolution they were building for the African Anatomy we see today.

Col. Muammar Gaddafi’s legacy warrants in-depth study of him. His leadership, policies, and impact on Libya and global affairs are subjects of ongoing debate and analysis. Understanding his role in shaping Libya’s history and his influence on regional and international politics can provide valuable insights for us all. You could be sacked, but that does not in any way exterminate your destiny. Be Resolute, and it shall happen. Revolutionise, transform, and change the Global Anatomy.
