The major opposition political party in Ghana; National Democratic Congress, held a protest on 18th June 2024 on the Theme “Hands off our Hotels Demonstration”, requesting the Government to stop their schemes in the sale of 60 percent shares in four hotels namely Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Elmina Beach Resort and Busua Beach Resort to Rock City Hotel owned by a Minister in Government.

The protests which begun from Labadi Beach Hotel to Christ The King Hotel all in Accra, were citing corrupt acts being undertaken by the incumbent Government under the New Patriotic Party’s Administration.

The main charge against the Government was on the proposed sale of Social Security National Insurance Trust Shares shares in four high class hotels in Ghana to Rock City Hotel, which is owned by the Minister of Agriculture; Hon. Bryan Acheampong. The SSNIT Scheme which is responsible reform generating receipts as pension salaries for retirees from the Ghanaian Anatomy has a phenomenal amount of the receipts from the Hotels which are being negotiated for sale. Other issues that the NDC has also cited in the past months against the Government are the untransparent dealings in the Agyapa Royalties Deal, the PDS Scandal and the sale of lands to Government appointees.

The convener, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency cited that the sale of properties belonging to the Government, to appointees of Government was a breach of the law. He also cited that any Member of Parliament who wanted to acquire a Government property must have applied with the Parliament’s Committee on Office of Profit, but Hon. Bryan Acheampong who duals as the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi Constituency, had not done that up till now which according to him is a breach of Article 78(3) and 98(2) of the 1992 Constitution of the Ghanaian Anatomy’s.
