US JOURNALIST; EVAN GERSHKOVICH FROM THE AMERICAN ANATOMY, SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS BEHIND BARS IN RUSSIA

Evan Gershkovich, an American Journalist who was found guilty of espionage on 19th July 2024, by a Russian Court has been sentenced to 16 years. Evan Gershkovich was arrested in March 2023 and at the time, President Biden said Gershkovich was wrongfully detained and did not commit any crime and had since then, been working to get Gershkovich out of Russia.

Evan Gershkovich went on trial in Yekaterinburg in June after he was accused of trying to take sensitive information on the dealings of a tank factory. Evan Gershkovich was arrested for gathering information on a company in Russia that produces tanks for the Russia-Ukraine War.

Andrei Mineyev, Judge ruling the case stated that, the months spent by Evan Gershkovich from March 2023 since he was detained will count to his sixteen year sentence.

The Government of the United States has stated that they will continue to do everything to ensure the release of their citizen, whom they claim has been wrongfully detained and put behind bars. The defence has 15 days to appeal. President Biden has stated that Journalism is not a crime and Evan Gershkovich’s act is no exception.
