President Donald Trump welcomed Vladimir Putin to his country on Friday 15th August with extraordinary attention as Vladimir Putin arrived on American soil at the Alaskan Tarmac.

No finalisations have been made so far but both leaders have stated that the meeting has been useful. President Trump however, made it clear that President Putin was willing to make some concessions even though he didn’t specify them.

Today, President Zelenskyy is in the White House hopefully for a better welcome than that which took place on February 28th at the oval office. President Putin has allowed for America and the European Union in general to provide very robust security guarantees as part of a security deal.

President Putin has opposed the joining of Ukraine to NATO which could give better reasons why he better sides with this agreement.

President Trump has stated that, Ukraine cannot join NATO if a peace agreement is to go on between Ukraine and Russia.

He further stated ahead of the meeting with President Zelenskyy that parts of Ukrainian territories, specifically the Crimean Peninsula which Russia annexed in 2014 cannot be returned.

These are President Zelenskyy’s comments on X – “Putin will commit demonstrative killings to maintain pressure on Ukraine and Europe, as well as to humiliate diplomatic efforts. That is precisely why we are seeking assistance to put an end to the killings.”
