Central African Republic President Faustin Archange Touadéra has secured a third term in office, with provisional results showing he won 76.15% of the vote. The election has been marred by controversy, with opposition candidates alleging widespread fraud and malpractice by the National Elections Authority. Two opposition candidates, including Anicet-Georges Dologuélé, have contested the results, with Dologuélé claiming victory and citing major irregularities in the polls.
Touadéra’s supporters have celebrated his win, but his office has dismissed the opposition’s claims and warned of the risk of unrest. The African Union has said the elections were peaceful, but analysts say Touadéra has consolidated power within state institutions.

The Central African Republic has been plagued by conflict since 2013, but security issues were a major concern for voters in the election. The United Nations peacekeeping mission MINUSCA is facing a drawdown due to financial constraints.
The full results will be announced later this month after the review of any appeals.
