PRESIDENT MAHAMA MEDIA ENCOUNTER

H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, had his first media encounter on the 10th of September, where he addressed to the media, the needs of the nation and the steps the Government was in towards addressing the needs, in line with their vision of resetting the country.

He spoke of the Land and Farm Bank Project which he said is positioning Ghana to be food secure and export competitive. In line with also ensuring a technological era through his promises, he spoke to the Media on the foundation they have set for the One Million Coders Programme.

President John Mahama also spoke on the No-Fees-Stress Policy which had absorbed about 120, 000 tertiary students into the system, thereby catering for their school fees, as a means of giving back to the society though his promise of catering for the fees of first year Tertiary students in Ghana. He also stated that the Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities had commenced and the Government was in the process of providing quality free education to persons in such categories across the tertiary sector.

President Mahama also stated that an allocation of Ghc50 million Cedis had been approved to foster a knowledge based economy through the Ghana National Research Fund. He further stated, “This is a step towards deepening research and innovation across all sectors – science, technology, humanities, and the arts. For far too long, much of the research conducted by our brilliant academics has been funded by foreign institutions, with the unfortunate outcome that the intellectual property and findings are often owned abroad.”

President Mahama stated that, the Free SHS Policy had not been scrapped off but had been maintained with a higher budget allocation thus, 3.5 billion Ghana Cedis, dedicated to the Free SHS.

President Mahama stated that the Agenda 111 Hospitals which was launched in August 17th 2021 under the previous government had not been scrapped off under his Government, as the Cabinet was waiting for a report from the Minister of Health to ascertain the progress and intervention for the policy.

President Mahama spoke of his commitment towards actualizing the 24 hour Policy and stated that the Ghana Publishing Company had commenced 24 hour services whist the Passport Office had also rolled their clocks to suit the 24 hour service.

President Mahama stated that he is aware of the burden that has been placed on him as President for the country, and will do more to ensure indeed, Ghana thrives economically.
