Mr. John Dramani Mahama begun his political office when he first served as Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi from 1997 to 2009. In 1997 he also served as the Deputy Minister for Communication and became the Minister for Communications in 1998. In 2003, Mr. Mahama was the Chairperson of the West African Caucus of the Pan African Parliament to 2011. He was also a member of the European and Pan African Parliaments’ Ad hoc Committee on Cooperation.
Mr. Mahama was a founding member of the Ghana Aids Commission and a member of the 2000 National Population Census Implementation Committee. He was the Vice President of Ghana from 7th January 2009 to 24th July 2012 when President John Evans Atta Mills passed on. During his reign as President, he was the Chairman of the Economic Management Team, the Decentralisation and Implementation Committee and the Police Council of Ghana. In December 2012, he won the elections with 50.70% of the total votes against the opposition party’s votes of 47.74% and continued his predecessor’s BETTER GHANA AGENDA.
He run again as President for the 2020 elections but lost and conceded defeat to Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo. In 2024, he won the general elections with a whooping win of 56 % of the votes as the second runner up; New Patriotic Party, pulled 41% of the votes. Mr. Mahama under his RESETTING GHANA, BUILDING THE GHANA WE WANT TOGETHER, looks forward towards resetting the country’s economy and providing the venues for social change for the gross economic transformation of the Ghanaian Anatomy.
