The President of The Gabonese Anatomy, H.E. Ali Ondimba Bongo has declared his stand to vy as a Presidential Candidate ahead of The Upcoming Presidential Elections slated for August 26th in the Central African country. Is President Ali Bongo thriving in the shoes of his father H.E. Omar Bongo, who served as President for life?
Concerns have been drawn not only from the Gabonese Anatomy but the African Anatomy as well over President Bongo’s decision, to continue his tenure of office. President Ali Bongo succeeds his Father; H.E. Omar Bongo, who has been President of The Gabonese Anatomy from 1967 to 2009 when he passed away. Post 2009, President Ali Bongo has been President of the Gabonese Anatomy and is not looking forward to handing over.
Members from President Bongo’s Party; Gabonese Democratic Party are behind him however and want him to continue his tenure of office. A term of office in Gabon had been 7 years but had been revised to 2023 in 5 years and this means, if President Ali Bongo wins the August Elections, he will be in for a third term to 2028. As at now, there are no term limits in Gabon which makes President Bongo be President for life.
