PAPUA NEW GUINEA HIT BY LANDSLIDE

At least 700 people have been confirmed to be dead following a landslide that took place in a village in Papua New Guinea on Friday 24th May, 2024. About 600 homes have been taken under the soil with hopes to take Survivors out very low.

The landslide has broken many buildings and destroyed many farm lands and vegetations in the region. According to The Papua New Guinea national disaster centre, the landslide buried at least 2,000 people. Papua New Guinea has an Anatomy of about 10 million people and is a country rich in gold, oil, silver and timber. It is also the second largest island in the world.

Papua New Guinea gained Independence from Australia in 1975 and Australia their largest development partner, has stated that, they will provide aid to the country as they have been doing for some time. China has also indicated that they will do alsp provide aid to the country. The country has been known to be prone to earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions and tidal waves.
