The New Patriotic Party (NPP), one of Ghana’s opposition parties and the party of the former government, held its National Delegates Conference, an annual programme at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Over 5,000 delegates attended the event, which focused primarily on amending the party’s constitution. The Theme for this year’s conference was Rebuilding Together with our Values.

The New Patriotic Party has been holding this conference since 1992 to elect leading members and plan strategically ahead of the upcoming elections. The key amendments reported by our Media Team for this year’s conference include the No Pre-Selection for Presidential Aspirants where the party scrapped the Super Delegates conference to promote fairness, allowing presidential aspirants to contest without pre-selection processes.
The size of voters for the party’s flagbearer election in primaries post the 2028 Presidential election was also enlarged to at least 280,000. This now includes past Parliamentarians, parliamentary candidates, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), card-holding former ministers and deputy ministers, and former regional and constituency executives.
The Party delegates also rejected a proposal to limit the age of youth delegates contesting for various youth positions to 35, maintaining the age of 40 which they already had in their constitution.
These reforms were part of 56 motions voted on by delegates via voice vote (“Yes” or “No”).
