The transitional parliament of the Gabonese Anatomy has passed a bill allowing their country’s security to be able to stand as presidential candidates during elections. This makes Captain Oligui Nguema, the transitional chairman, qualified to stand for the Gabonese Anatomy’s elections.
On 30th August 2023, Captain Oligui Nguema ousted President Ali Bongo from power just within a short duration after he was declared the winner of the elections held on August 26th, 2023. The country has since then been ruled by Captain Nguema and they have been preparing for a new Democratically elected terrain. According to the newly passed Bill, all members of the security council, including Captain Oligui Nguema, can all stand as presidential candidates.
President Ali Bongo had been in power from 2009 to 2023 after succeeding his father; Omar Bongo, who was in power from 1967 to 2009, when he passed away. The current presidential term in office for the Gabonese Anatomy was 7 years before 2018 after President Ali Bongo abolished the limit on the number of terms a president can have in office. Ccaptain Nguema ousted Ex-President Ali Bongo due to his corrupt and dictatorial style of leadership.
