Ex-Finance Minister under the Akufo-Addo led government for the Ghanaian Anatomy, is currently being wanted by the Government over allegations of corruption, mismanagement of public funds and causing financial losses to the state. Hon. Ken Ofori Atta left Ghana in January 2025 and steps to bring him back to Ghana, to answer some questions concerning the allegations has proved futile.
Hon. Ofori Atta failed to attend an interview with the Special Prosecutor of Ghana, even though he was called upon to answer some questions. The Special Prosecutor has cited Hon. Ofori Atta as a fugitive as measures towards getting him back are still in process. Hon. Ken Ofori Atta was in power as the finance minister under the previous government from 2017 to 2024.
Hon. Ken Ofori Atta is a co-founder of Databank who has helped Ghana in many debt restructuring efforts after Ghana defaulted many times. In 2022, the minority raised for him to be kicked out of office following alleged mismanagement of funds but it didn’t suffice, after voting in parliament went in favour of the majority who are now in opposition. Mr. John Mahama’s party is now in the majority. Under Ken Ofori Atta’s watch, the NPP led Government now in opposition, closed down 16 banks such as Heritage Bank, Beige Bank, GN Bank, First Allied Savings and Loans, Premium Bank, Royal Bank amongst others. Out of the 16 banks, 8 were Ghanaian owned.
