A fresh round of violence erupted in the Gaza Strip yesterday, 4th February 2026, as Israeli airstrikes killed 23 Palestinians, including seven children. The Israeli military claimed the attacks were a response to militant fire targeting Israeli troops near the Gaza-Israel border.

The latest outbreak of violence comes just 72 hours after Israel reopened Gaza’s main crossing point with Egypt, a significant development in the fragile truce backed by the United States. Since the ceasefire began, Israeli forces have killed nearly 560 people in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to local health officials.

In the same period, Palestinian militants have targeted Israeli soldiers, killing four, according to Israeli authorities. The situation in Gaza remains precarious, with both sides trading blame for breaches of the truce.

The shaky ceasefire has been marred by recurring violence, and fundamental issues such as Israeli troop withdrawal and Hamas disarmament remain unresolved. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening, with widespread shortages of essential supplies like food, water, and medicine.
