The Iranian Government has decided to boycott the upcoming FIFA World Cup scheduled to commence on June 16th and end on July 19th, 2026. The Government’s decision has been in this direction due to the current geopolitical tensions between Iran and America following the killings of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

“Considering that this corrupt regime; the US has assassinated our leader, under no circumstances can we participate in the World Cup,” Ahmad Donyamali, Iran’s sports minister, said on Iran’s air on wednesday.

Ahmad Donyamali, Iran’s sports minister, framed the decision as a necessary measure to protect the country’s dignity and sovereignty, citing the devastating impact of US-led airstrikes on Iranian civilians.
