GUINEA-BISSAU’S HIGHEST MEDAL AWARDED TO H.E. ADAMA BARROW

In a significant display of diplomatic friendship, Gambian President Adama Barrow has been awarded the Amílcar Cabral Medal, the highest state honor in Guinea-Bissau. The prestigious award recognizes President Barrow’s efforts in strengthening bilateral relations between The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.

During his historic official state visit to Bissau, President Barrow was decorated with the medal by his host, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló. The ceremony underscored the strong bond and common history shared by the two nations, transcending colonial boundaries. President Embaló emphasized the potential for joint development projects, including cross-border industrial zones focused on cashew processing and agro-industries.

President Barrow dedicated the honor to the people of The Gambia, acknowledging the values of unity, freedom, and Pan-Africanism embodied by Amílcar Cabral. He also received the key to the city of Bissau from Mayor José Medina Lobato, symbolizing the warm relations between the two nations.

As part of his visit, President Barrow paid respects to the revolutionary leaders by laying a floral tribute at the tomb of Amílcar Cabral and General João Bernardo Vieira at Amura Fortress. The visit culminated in the signing of a landmark security cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering peace and stability between the two West African nations
