Ghanaian Anatomy – Maxwell Jumah, the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company, a state-owned alcoholic beverage company, has been arrested by the Police on allegations of theft, mismanagement of funds, and unauthorized sale of properties.

Mr. Maxwell Jumah was apprehended on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at his Kumasi residence, where he was allegedly celebrating his birthday.
Jumah, who served as Managing Director from 2016 to January 2025, is accused of selling company properties worth over $700,000 without authorization and incurring massive losses to the state through mismanagement of company receipts.

Investigations also revealed that Jumah allegedly purchased a Genesis G90 sedan valued at over $90,000 for a significantly lower price of $477.54. Furthermore, he is accused of retaining two company-owned cars in his personal custody after leaving office.
In a related incident, National Security officials visited Jumah’s residence on May 15, 2025, to retrieve one of the company cars he allegedly used unlawfully.
Following his arrest, Jumah was taken to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and later transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters in Accra for further interrogation.
The case is currently under investigation, and Jumah’s arrest has sparked widespread interest, given his tenure under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
