A Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into the Milestone School and College in the Uttara area of Dhaka around 1 pm on Monday, July 21, 2025. The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam, tried to steer the aircraft away from crowded areas but ended up crashing into the school building.
The death toll has risen to 27, with 25 of the deceased being children. At least 170 people were injured, with several in critical condition. Emergency services including firefighters, army troops, and ambulances rushed to the scene. A high-level investigation committee has been formed by the Bangladesh Air Force to determine the cause of the accident.
Bangladesh’s interim government chief, Muhammad Yunus, expressed shock and sorrow over the casualties. A day of state mourning was declared for Tuesday, July 22, 2025, with national flags flown at half-mast.
