THE STATE OF OUR NATION IS NOT GOOD – PRESIDENT JOHN MAHAMA

On the 27th of February, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama, President of the Ghanaian Anatomy, delivered a State of The Nation Address at the country’s parliament in Accra. As mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 constitution of Ghana, each president is expected to deliver a national address to the National Anatomy.

President Mahama who stated that it is not his style to shift blame when confronted with challenges, however spoke of the economic challenges that had bewildered the nation. President Mahama stated that, when the country was confronted with electricity shortages and power outages during his tenure as President in 2016, he promised to end it and indeed, there were no power shortages from 2016 to 2017. His successes on this was what he used to encourage the National Anatomy of Ghana that, he will fix the economic crisis of the country and place the country on the path of prosperity and growth.

President Mahama spoke of the country’s current debt at Ghc721 billion with state companies like Electricity Company of Ghana and the Ghana Cocoa Board all owing 68 and 32 billion cedis, separately. President Mahama promised to shift the country towards a green era where there will be less focus on crude oil and fossil fuel but on renewable energy to reduce pressure on national grids, through ensuring solar street light and other similar like projects.

The Nkokonkitikiti project an agricultural project, he said, will cover about 55, 000 households and reduce the import of poultry.

President Mahama also spoke of youth unemployment and stated that about 2 million youths in Ghana are unemployed which poses a security threat to Ghana. Mr. Mahama stated that the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment will provide avenues to provide employment in the country. He stated that National Service Personnel who were involved in scandalous acts of taking multiple incomes, will have their assets freezed and are declared wanted in the country.

President John Mahama promised to provide a 20 percent allowance for teachers who will like to teach in rural areas. He also stated that no new school will be built in the nation without teacher’s accommodation. He also stated that, he will not cancel the FREE SHS Programme and is determined to make it better by improving its implementation. He stated that students with disabilities will pay no fees during their entire time in universities. The Persons with Disabilities Amendment Bill he said, is concerned with to ensure that is passed to ensure that people in such situations, have access to free education.

According to President John Mahama, The Ghana Medical Trust Fund also known as the Mahama Fund, will work to finance the treatment of communicable diseases to make their health systems, more resilient to shocks. He said 400 million dollars spent under the Agenda 111 project under the previous government still has no single hospital under this project operational, as some of them are still at the commencement base.

President Mahama also stated that, the Ho Airport will have 10 acres of for the construction of the airport which will have a pilot training academy, for Ghana and Africa.
