OVER RELIANCE ON EXTERNAL PARTNERS COMPROMISES AU’S AGENDA – PRESIDENT MAHAMA

President Mahama earlier this week was in Nairobi where he read a speech to the African Union. President Mahama was elated and first of all expressed his appreciation to President William Ruto for honoring his invitation to be present at his swearing in ceremony at Accra- Ghana.

President Mahama spoke of how the African Union must recalibrate their strategies to meet the ever increasing challenges and needs of the people. He said the African Union needs some bold and transformative reforms to curb the challenges like poverty, youth unemployment, conflicts, finance deficits and food insecurities. He also stressed that, the African Union must evolve to become more agile and efficient and impactful in addressing these new challenges.

He stated that the results of the African Union must be timely oriented as he looked at the bureaucracies which were slowing down the affairs of the union. He looks at a system that prioritise transparency, accountability and value for money for the efficient Africa, he wants. He also spike on the Africa Standby force to alleviate and combat terrorist and rebel acts in the region, particularly, West Africa.

He spoke at the retreat telling all leaders present to be united to resolve not only the challenges of Africa’s today, but in the future in building a self-reliant, resilient and prosperous Africa.
