Ex-President of the Ghanaian Anatomy and current flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress; Mr. John Mahama, has been exonerated from an alleged bribery scandal put against him. He was exonerated by the Office of the Special Prosecution after investigations took place on him, concerning the Airbus scandal.
There was an alleged bribery agreement between the Airbus and some Government officials receiving a commission of £5 million, but it did not take place. On Thursday August 8th 2024, the Special Prosecutor; Kissi Agyebeng stated at a press conference that, there is no evidential base to claim Mr. Mahama was involved in any bribery scandal. The Special Prosecutor also did not find any connection with Mr. Mahama and his brother, Adam Mahama.
Ghana bought 3 C295s Airbuses with one in 2011, 2012 and 2015 to help in the Ghana Armed Forces’ services. The acquisitions of the airbuses were via loan facilities from the Deutsche Bank, Fidelity Bank and Brazilian Development Bank. Ex-President Mahama together with his colleagues, were stated to have been involved in some bribery deals before choosing to purchase the aircrafts from the British Company, but has been exonerated.
