Ghana’s President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has directed the immediate recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, following allegations of vote-buying during the party, National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency following the passing of the constituency’s MP, Naser Toure on January 4th, 2026 ahead of the March 3rd by-elections.
Baba Jamal had won the NDC primary with 431 votes, defeating his closest rival, Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes.
The recall is in response to allegations that Baba Jamal distributed gifts to delegates during the primaries, which is seen as a breach of the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.

In a statement, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesperson, explained that the recall is necessary to preserve the integrity of public office and avoid any perception of impropriety. The NDC has launched its own investigation into the allegations, and the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has condemned the alleged acts as a violation of the party’s core values and principles.
