The ECOWAS Bloc on June 27th held a meeting in Nigeria with Defense and/or Finance Ministers of the various National Anatomies’ Member States, to address issues on combating the security dilemma in the region.

Major proposals considered during the meeting was the deployment of a 5,000 military force in the standby to fight against all counter-democracies and a commitment of $2.6 billion annually to help prevent coups in the region.

Hon. Mohammed Abubakar; Minister of Defence for the Nigerian Anatomy at the meeting stated that two options could be considered for a military force and they were a sum of $2.6 billion annual commitment by member states for a force of 5,000 personnel or a sum of $481 million for a force of 1,500 personnel all annually.

In the move by ECOWAS to restore Democratic Transitions to three countries hit by coup in their region, ECOWAS seeks to adopt measures to proactively prevent more coups and restore Democratic stability to countries hit by wars and coups in the region. Sudan has also been faced with a hunger problem which looks to become worse.
