Tanzania will be having their general elections on October 29th, 2025 but the elections has been marked with controversy as CHADEMA and ACT-Wazalendo have been banned from taking part in the elections. Concerns have been raised due to the ban on the two main opposition parties from contesting in the elections.
The ban on CHADEMA is because they refused to sign the electoral agreement citing demands for electoral reforms as they disagree with the electoral commission’s reform as they think they favour only the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi.

Opposition Leader Tundu Lissy of the Chadema Party was banned in April this year on charges of treason. In 2021, President Samia Suluhu Hassan also oversaw the imprisonment of Freeman Mbowe who was the Chadema leader.

Luhaga Mpina of the ACT-Wazalendo party was also initially disqualified from taking part in the elections and then disqualified again after a being reinstated shortly by the High Court.
