The Zambian Anatomy’s former President; Edgar Lungu, has been barred from seeking re-election by the constitutional court in Zambia. The court ruled that Mr. Lungu has served as president for two terms and was therefore not eligible to re-stand.
Mr. Edgar Lungu was chosen by Tonse Alliance to be their presidential candidate ahead of the 2026 elections but has been barred after the court ruled that he had served the maximum two terms, cancelling the appendage that made him vy in 2021 after he lost to Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.
Edgar Lungu was head of state from 2015 after President Michael Sata died in office, making Mr. Lungu, who was then vice president, served as president for one year and eight months. Mr. Edgar lungu once again was president from 2016 to 2021 and lost the 2021 elections to the incumbent president of the Zambian Anatomy, H.E. Hakainde Hichilema.
