75TH UNITED NATIONS PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS MEETING DONE IN ACCRA – GHANA

A United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting was held on the 5th and 6th December at the Accra International Conference Centre. The Conference was centered on promoting and maintaining International Peace and Security across the Globe. This meeting serves as the 75th meeting since its commencement in May 1948.

The United Nations expressed their concerns over financial difficulties as Under Secretary General for Peace Operations; Jean-Pierre Lacroix said the 30,000 Unit force is under a budget of $5.5 billion which is even lower than the budget of the New York Police Force making them unable to perform their peacekeeping operations phenomenonally especially in designated countries that need urgent attention like the Sudanese, Central African Republican and Congolese Anatomies. Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix also noted that divisions amongst member states had served as a detriment to the free flow of their services.

The Under Secretary General for Peace Operations; Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Under Secretary General for Operational Support; Atul Khare and over 500 delegates from various member states of the United Nations Commission, the Vice President of The Republic of Ghana; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Minister of International Relations; Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey from the Ghanaian Anatomy were all present at the meeting.
