										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Mrs. Gertrude Torkonoo, a Judge from the Ghanaian Anatomy has set the scores for African Female Judges on the high, after being approved by the Parliament of Ghana as the next Chief Justice for Ghana. Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo takes over the office from Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah who retired on 24th of May, 2023.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo appeared before the the Parliament&#8217;s Appointments Committee on May 26th where she was vetted and was recommended for the position of Chief Justice by the Committee. She will take over from Justice Jones Dotse, a Supreme Court Judge of The Ghanaian Anatomy, who was serving as the acting Chief Justice post Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah&#8217;s retirement on 24th May, 2023.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo was approved by the Parliament of Ghana in December 2019 to be a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana. She performed majestically and has been able to rise high the rank to now be approved by Parliament once again after Ex- Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah who was in the position from December 2019 to May 2023.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo is a product of Wesley Girls&#8217; Senior High School and the University of Ghana, where she had her Bachelors Degree in Law and Sociology and The Ghana School of Law. She also had her Masters Degree in Law at the Golden Gate University School of Law. She has worked in the Judicial Fraternity for over twenty years and was also part of the seven member committee that heard the Election Petition by Ex-President John Dramani Mahama in 2020 against His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Electoral Commission of Ghana headed chaired by Jean Mensa.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Global Freedom Board of <strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-1-color">AFRICAN VOICES INTERNATIONAL</mark></strong> sees this new rank of Justice Gertrude Torkonoo as the Chief Justice as quintessential one towards the rehabilitation of Women in August public offices. Indeed, women can be solidified in the right direction once they work indefatigably and fight proactively. Let&#8217;s not settle for less. Let&#8217;s be Proactive. Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo serves as the third female Female Justice of the Ghanaian Anatomy after Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo who served from June 2017 to December 2019 and Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood who served from June 2007 to June 2017.</p>
