Kenyan marathon runner Sabastian Sawe made history on April 26, 2026, by becoming the first person to officially break the two-hour barrier in a marathon, winning the London Marathon with a record time of 1:59:30. This achievement shatters the previous world record of 2:00:35 set by Kelvin Kiptum in Chicago last year.

Sawe’s incredible run was closely followed by Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha, who finished second with a time of 1:59:41, also breaking the two-hour mark. Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo took third place with a time of 2:00:28, further solidifying the impressive performance of these athletes.

Veron Mosengo-Omba, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Secretary, has announced his departure from the role, choosing to pursue personal interests after dedicating over three decades to African football.

The move comes amidst controversy, including the AFCON final debacle where Senegal lost the title to Morocco. Mosengo-Omba however had faced criticism for exceeding CAF’s retirement age and workplace allegations, though an investigation found no wrongdoing.

CAF’s competitions director, Samson Adamu, will temporarily fill the role while a replacement is sought.

By: Isaac Kwabena Boadu Date: 26th March, 2026

Senegal has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to nullify their AFCON triumph. The governing body had ruled that Senegal forfeited the final match against Morocco due to their players’ brief walk-off in protest of a late penalty call, flipping their 1-0 win into a 3-0 loss.

The Senegalese Football Federation claims the CAF ruling Mars the dignity if African football and lacks a solid foundation in sporting fairness. They’re pushing to have the original match outcome reinstated, crowning Senegal the rightful AFCON 2025 champions. CAS has acknowledged the appeal and will tackle the case with impartial arbitrators.

This appeal could set a benchmark for African football, sparking debate on whether titles should be decided on the field or in administrative chambers. CAF President Patrice Motsepe stresses that all parties can seek resolution via CAS, while Senegal’s government demands an international probe into alleged CAF corruption.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has nullified Senegal’s win in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, stripping Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and awarding it to Morocco. This follows an appeal by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) after Senegal’s 1-0 win over Morocco in the final was marred by controversy.

CAF’s Appeals Board ruled that Senegal’s walk-off in protest of a late penalty awarded to Morocco constituted a forfeiture, citing Articles 82 and 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations regulations. The decision overturns Senegal’s 1-0 extra-time win, with Morocco now awarded a 3-0 victory.

The issue stems from the January 18th final in Rabat, where Senegal players led by their coach Pape Thiaw, walked off the pitch for about 15 minutes after a penalty in favor of Morocco was awarded. Morocco lost the penalty and Senegal won 1-0 in extra time through Pape Gueye’s goal. However, CAF’s Appeals Board ruled that Senegal’s actions fell under Articles 82 and 84 of tournament regulations, which stated that a team in the course of playing a match that left the field withhout any authorisation from the refereee deemed it as forfeiting the match.

Senegal have emerged victorious in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), defeating host Morocco 1-0 in a dramatic final. Pape Gueye’s extra-time goal sealed the win, marking Senegal’s second AFCON title in three editions.

Senegal’s journey to the top was marked by resilience and determination. They topped their group with wins over Botswana and Benin, and a draw against Congo DR. They then beat Mozambique 4-0 in the round of 16, Algeria 2-0 in the quarterfinals, and Egypt 1-0 in the semifinals, thanks to Sadio Mane’s decisive goal.

Mane, the tournament’s Player of the Tournament, played a pivotal role in Senegal’s success, showcasing leadership, consistency, and influence on the game. His sportsmanship was also on display when he convinced his teammates to return to the pitch after they walked off in protest against a controversial penalty award.

The final was not without controversy, with Senegal’s players walking off the pitch in protest against a late penalty award. However, Mane’s leadership and Edouard Mendy’s crucial save on Brahim Diaz’s penalty helped Senegal regain composure and secure the win.

Senegal’s victory is a testament to their growth as a football powerhouse. With a strong squad, experienced leadership, and growing depth, they remain a top contender for future AFCON tournaments.

In a stunning display of devotion, Michel Nkuka Mboladinga has become the sensation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Dubbed “Lumumba Vea,” this ardent DR Congo supporter has been frozen in time, replicating the iconic stance of Patrice Lumumba’s memorial statue in Kinshasa. His unwavering tribute has mesmerized fans globally, earning accolades from CAF President Patrice Motsepe and the Algerian Football Federation.

This remarkable display has reignited interest in Patrice Lumumba’s enduring legacy. A visionary leader, Patrice Lumumba spearheaded the DRC’s fight in securing the DRC’s independence from Belgium on June 30th, 1960.
Mohammed Kudus, the Ghanaian maestro, etched his name into the UEFA Champions League annals on December 9th, 2025, unleashing a thunderous strike for Tottenham Hotspur in their resounding 3-0 triumph over Slavia Prague. The skilled midfielder coolly converted a penalty in the 50th minute, solidifying Tottenham’s win.

Kudus snapped out of his slump with a poised finish, ending a three-year wait for a Champions League goal since his illustrious Ajax days in 2022.

The goal marked Kudus’ first in 14 Champions League appearances. He now boasts eight goal contributions this season and will look to build on this momentum when Tottenham locks horns with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this weekend.
